Cancer(which is the Latin word for crab) is a feminine, cardinal, watery sign under the influence of the moon. The constellation emulates the crab's sidling gait by moving sideways toward the south. In Creek mythology it was placed in the heavens by the mothergoddess, Hera, as a reward for nipping Herakle's foot.
